Titre officiel: Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/1671 of 4 October 2019 on the appointment of the Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank
Ce que fait l'acte
to nominate the Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) of the European Central Bank (ECB). CONTENT: the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) has proposed the appointment of ECB Executive Board member Yves Mersch (LU) as Vice-Chair of the ECB’s Supervisory Board for the remainder of his term as an Executive Board member until 14 December 2020. The ECB informed the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), Roberto Gualtieri, in line with the Interinstitutional Agreement between the ECB and the European Parliament. In accordance with Article 26(3) of the SSM Regulation ( Council Regulation (EU) 1024/2013 ), the appointment needs the approval of the European Parliament. The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs adopted a report by Roberto GUALTIERI (S&D, IT) on the proposal to appoint the Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank (ECB). The committee approved the appointment of Yves Mersch as Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank. Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs evaluated the credentials of the proposed candidate, in particular in view of the requirements laid down in Regulation (EU) No 1024/2013 entrusting the ECB with specific tasks relating to policies on the prudential supervision of credit institutions. On 4 September 2019, it held a hearing with the proposed candidate, during which he made an introductory statement and then answered questions from the members of the committee. The European Parliament approved by 379 votes to 230, with 69 abstentions, the appointment of Yves Mersch as vice-chairman of the supervisory board of the European Central Bank. Prior to the vote in plenary, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs evaluated the candidate’s credentials. It then held a hearing with the candidate on 4 September 2019, during which he made an opening statement and answered questions from the members of the committee.
