The Committee on Budgetary Control adopted the report by Igor ŠOLTES (Greens/EFA, SI) in which it called on the European Parliament to deliver a favourable opinion on the Council’s nomination of Mihails KOZLOVS as a Member of the Court of Auditors. Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control evaluated the credentials of the nominee, in particular in view of the requirements laid down in Article 286(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. At its meeting of 15 March 2016, the Committee on Budgetary Control heard the Council’s nominee for membership of the Court of Auditors. The curriculum vitae, the candidate's answers to questions from Members as regards his professional experience, the guarantees of independence in the performance of his duties are all contained in the Annex. Following the recommendation of its Committee on Budgetary Control, the European Parliament decided by 386 votes to 123 with 186 abstentions to deliver a favourable opinion on the Council’s nomination of Mihails Kozlovs as a Member of the Court of Auditors. Before the vote in plenary, the Committee on Budgetary Control had assessed the qualifications of the proposed candidate. It had subsequently heard the candidate at its meeting of 15 March 2016. PURPOSE: to appoint a Latvian member to the Court of Auditors. NON-LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Decision (EU, Euratom) 2016/640 appointing five members of the Court of Auditors. CONTENT: with this Decision, the Council decided to appoint Mihails KOZLOVS as a member of the Court of Auditors for the period from 7 May 2016 to 6 May 2022. ENTRY INTO FORCE: the Decision shall enter into force on 21.4.2016.
