Council Decision (EU, Euratom) 2016/981 of 16 June 2016 appointing a member of the Court of Auditors

What it is

The Committee on Budgetary Control adopted the report by Bart STAES (Greens/EFA, BE) in which it recommended the European Parliament to give a favourable opinion on the Council’s nomination of Rimantas Šadžius as a Member of the Court of Auditors. Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control evaluated the credentials of the nominee, in particular in view of the requirements laid down in Article 286(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Then at its meeting of 23 May 2016, the committee heard the Council’s nominee for membership of the Court of Auditors. The candidate's answers to questions from members as regards professional experience, the guarantees of independence and the performance of duties are annexed to the report. In line with the recommendation made by the Committee on Budget Control, the European Parliament decided by 498 to 120, with 53 abstentions, to deliver a favourable opinion on the Council’s nomination of Rimantas Šadžius as a Lithuanian Member of the Court of Auditors. PURPOSE: to appoint a Lithuanian member to the Court of Auditors. NON-LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Decision 2016/981 (EU, Euratom) appointing a member of the Court of Auditors. CONTENT: With this Decision, the Council decides to appoint Rimantas ŠADŽIUS as the Lithuanian Member of the Court of Auditors for the period 16.6.2016 to 15.6.2022. He will replace Ms Rasa BUDBERGYTĖ whose term of office expired on 6 May 2016.
