In accordance with the second paragraph of Article 246 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the European Parliament approved by 517 votes to 77, with 89 abstentions, the appointment of Mariya GABRIEL (BG) as new member of the Commission for the remaining duration of the Commission's term of office until 31 October 2019 . The decision to approve her appointment was based on her hearing on 20 June 2017, led by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Culture and Education, with the association of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and on the statement of evaluation drawn up following that hearing. PURPOSE: to appoint Mariya Gabriel (BG) as a member of the Commission. NON-LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Decision (EU, Euratom) 2017/1244, taken by common accord with the President of the Commission, of 7 July 2017 appointing a Member of the European Commission. CONTENT: by common accord with the President of the Commission, Jean-Claude JUNCKER, the Council decided to appoint Mariya GABRIEL as a member of the Commission for the remainder of the current term of office, which runs until 31 October 2019.This decision follows the resignation of Kristalina GEORGIEVA from her position as Vice-President and Member of the Commission with effect from 1 January 2017.
